Andrew joined NACA, (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), NASA's predecessor, as a research pilot at the Lewis Laboratory in Cleveland and later transferred to the NACA High Speed Flight Station at Edwards AFB, California. He was a project pilot on many pioneering high speed aircraft, including the 4,000 mph X-15. He has flown over 200 different models of aircraft, including jets, rockets, helicopters and gliders.
Jane earned a private pilot certificate in 1987 through a U.S. Air Force aero club in England. She added commercial and flight instructor certificates in 1990 and in 1994 he obtained a Multiengine instructor rating. Jane currently holds a Gold Seal flight instructor certificate with airplane single, multiengine, and instrument ratings; a commercial pilot certificate with airplane single and multiengine land, and instrument ratings; and a ground instructor certificate with advanced and instrument ratings. She has accumulated over 5600 hours of flight time, over 2000 as a flight instructor.
